Saturday was very cold, wet and snowy down here in North Carolina. When it's that yucky outside, I like to cook something warm and comforting for the evening. I usually make this chili recipe with ground beef, but I decided to use ground turkey this time around to see if it tasted just as good. And it was...
1 1/2 to 2 lb ground meat (beef or turkey)
1 (15 oz) can chili beans in spicy sauce
1 (14 oz) can diced tomato
1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
1 small onion (or half of a large one), chopped
1 green or red bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 green chili pepper, seeded and chopped
1 cube of beef bullion
1/2 cup beer
2 T chili powder
2 tsp worcestershire sauce
2 tsp minced garlic
2 tsp oregano, dried
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp basil, dried
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp sugar
Gather your ingredients.
Brown the meat on high heat in the pot.
Prepare your vegetables.
Once the meat has browned, add all of the ingredients, stir, cover and lower the heat.
Leave it to simmer for at least two hours.
Serve in individual bowls and garnish with Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream and/or Corn Chips.
